Many thanks to our friends, Trevor and Valentina Knight, we now have a 2 man (or 3 kid) roof tent installed. I had to take the tent to the manufacturer (Hannibal Safari Equipment) in Cape Town to have a new ladder made (the car is taller than the Kinight’s) and a new flysheet added (to keep the rainy season out)… but brilliant! I installed the fridge/freezer, made a shelf for the back area under which ammo boxes can be stored, installed the gas tank, water tank and jerry cans on the roof rack, and installed a cargo netting in the back to keep everything vaguely in place.
In the process of kitting this thing out I’ve added a percentage point or two to Australia’s GDP. Everything offroad (except for roof top tents) is Australian-made. This, I’ve concluded is clearly a carry-over from having to build all those vehicles for “Mad Max” – those industrious Bruces have made a lasting industry out of it.
My brother observed “all you need now to land a Jeremy Clarkson interview is some fuzzy dice”. I’ll try to find something Australian and offroad. They might be fuzzy but probably not dice as such.
